Home schooling is now illegal in California

Citing state law that goes back to the early 1950s, Croskey declared that "California courts have held that under provisions in the Education Code, parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children." Furthermore, the judge wrote, if instructors teach without credentials they will be subject to criminal action. In our state, Home Schooling Parents must be a part of a home school association, and they have to follow a particular curriculum and keep very good records. From the details of this case, where a family was under investigation for child abuse because one of the children filed a complaint with the DCFS, I would say that the root of all of this is that the California DCFS was placing the burden of investigation and monitoring of this family on the public school system, instead of doing their job of monitoring the family with home visits and due diligence.
